A brief Profile of Vasundhra Vikas Samiti and its Objectives
Introduction:
Vasundhra Vikas Samiti (VVS) is a non-governmental, non-profit making, non-political voluntary organisation (NGO) committed to work for social and cultural up liftment, environmental improvement, health, education and propagation of scientific views. It is a forum of like minded professionals eager to serve the community. VVS is registered under Society Registration Act since 1994.
Vasundhra Vikas Samiti started as a group of like-minded people dedicated to provide developmental support to the urban and rural community. The previous years have seen the VVS grow from a group of persons to a compact team dedicated to facilitating achievement of world class human resource development standards. The previous year saw the VVS consolidate its programmes rather than expand the operational area and develop a team of dedicated and trained manpower for the growth of the VVS. VVS also reoriented by streamlining its work areas and dedicating its efforts for development of human resources and social milieu of the region. The VVS created new divisions for undertaking specific programmes in the areas of Training, Research and need based field programmes.
The VVS catalyzed its efforts for changing people's perceptions and conserving the natural resources of the region. Entrepreneurship development, Vocational Training, empowerment at the grassroots level and promotion of reproductive and child health including strengthening of traditional skills, systems and values emerged as the focus areas, after the soul searching exercise undertaken by the VVS.
Objectives:
The main objectives of the society can be grouped broadly into five categories:
1. Research and Development;
2. Awareness Creation, Advocacy and Dissemination;
3. Training and Education;
4. Consultancy and Project Implementation;
5. Networking.
Interest Area:
Following are the areas of interest of VVS:
i) Vocational Training in various Trades and Non-formal Education and Development of related infrastructure;
ii) Training, Education, Awareness Creation, Community participation and Employment generation;
iii) Animal welfare, their protection, Shelter and vaccination to protect them from various diseases. Camps for better upkeep, prevention from diseases etc. Distribution of free of cost literature to villagers;
iv) Training, Demonstration in cost effective construction material and technology and Housing for Weaker Section;
v) Bamboo related activities and Training in production of Bamboo related products;
vi) Literacy Programme, Adult education, training programmes awareness creation regarding relevant Government policies and programmes;
vii) Activities in Infrastructure Sector: Water Supply, Sanitation, Drainage, Solid Waste Disposal and Roads;
viii) Environment Awareness campaign for conservation, protection, planning and Wasteland Development;
ix) Establishing/in the process of establishing Common Facility Centre of Bamboo, Animal Shelter, ITI (extension), Senior citizen/Women welfare centre etc. by VVS;
x) Setting up facilities for Teachers' training course i.e. B.Ed., B.T.C., N.T.T. etc.;
xi) Socio Economic Development of SC/ST, Backwards, Minority Groups, Handicapped, Farmers and Artisans and other weaker sections of Society. Poverty Alleviation, Home based Economic Activities;
xii) Activities in Agriculture and Horticulture through new technology and information. Promotion of Horticulture and Medicinal Plants.
xiii) Vermi-compost, Animal Husbandry, Watershed development etc.;
xiv) Development and Popularization of Culture, Folk, Performing Arts, Youth Welfare & Sports;
xv) Training for Agri-entrepreneurship development through the Agri-clinic scheme of Ministry of Agriculture, GOI.
